started working for BRIGHT

A couple of days ago, I started blogging for BRIGHT (in Dutch btw)

BRIGHT is a Dutch magazine, devoted to tech/life/style, with a website to match. Next to the blogging, I’m busy with all kinds of things for their magazine, but more on that later :-) I’m pleased and quite flattered by the fact I started working for them, this is going to be fun! ;-)

and then some... Japanese?

Well, first of all, let’s all have a marvelous 2006, shall we? :D

I’m not sure what it’s gonna bring of course, but somehow I’m enjoying myself quite well lately and I will be (more than) fine when that keeps on going… so there…

And what about some good plans for this year? How about learning some Japanese?

RPG style? It only runs on Windows, so in my case that meant I had to install it on my Media Center (called praystation) but maybe that turns out to be quite convenient… I hardly watch any television lately, so when I want to wind down(weeeeee!), maybe I could start to learn some Japanese while I’m at it…

...somehow that seems like a more solid plan to do than to play Hello Kitty Roller Rescue on there… :D

...and who knows, one day I could actually read what was on Engadget Japanese a couple of days ago… :-)

2005: quite a year (*^_^*)

Well, this year almost comes to an end…

Time for me to sum it up, and when speaking of geektechnique it’s been a marvelous year

It all started off just like this site ended last year, the traffic in january and february was the usual… and then… in March the whole thing shifted into a higher gear…

the iNo got some major coverage on some big sites and kaboom! my little old SGI Challenge S (I still think it’s a miracle it could even cope with the traffic) had to work hard to keep up :-)

...it’s the small one in the front (*^_^*)

this one:

at some point in history, this little Challenge was considered quite a brutal webhosting platform :-)

I felt I had to somehow professionalize this whole operation, so I shifted to another server, a homebuilt Athlon 1200 and boy was I glad I had some extra oomph, when this site got slashdotted (because of this article)

Anyways, not exactly knowing what to expect from here… I couldn’t resist a good deal on yet another server

...and I was very glad I had it laying around, cause it was needed hard to keep another site up. Not long after that I also moved my own site to this new server (in a datacenter this time) and from september on this site has been linked quite regularly on some big sites. (check my projects page for more info on that)

Although some people think I’m completely mad to use a dual Xeon solely for this site and another one... I can tell you, I’m very glad with this setup. Of course, I’ve still got room for a couple of big sites on there and somehow I like to keep it that way… not sure what I’m gonna do in 2006, or how 2006 will turn out to be for geektechnique, me, or both… we’ll see

Anyways, I want to say thanks to everyone who helped me, in one way or another, to get this whole operation (my hobby) into a higher gear and I will try to continue to be the geek I am :D

Let’s all have a splendid 2006!

cheers

Mark

sexiest geeks!

So wired news published the sexiest geek top 10 and i was surprised to find Elyse Sewell in there

“Elyse Sewell, for launching a successful modeling career after refusing to agree with the judges on America’s Top Model that modeling presented some extreme mental challenges. She also keeps a highly entertaining Livejournal blog (refreshingly light on vanity shots). We hope she still goes to medical school.”

so i guess i’ve found myself a new goal for 2006!
(along with me and mark getting big in japan ;))

SCSI U320 x2 goes like stink!

click any of the images to enlarge

I’ve had these U320-disks on my desk for a few days now… and since I love’em I started to cramp them into my already crowded desktop…

I know, my desktop from the inside looks like shit, but it goes like stink! (especially with these disks)...

So, my workstation is becoming a true workstation ever more… (all I need now, is more memory and an ATI Fire GL-card…)

...but, for now, this is good to go(...) so let’s go to work!

(and about the last pic… we had some snow here last night… that’s all…)

Don't forget about the chaos

...that’s what it said in my comments a few days ago…

Well, I haven’ t forgotten about the chaos, but I hate to admit I can’t make it to Berlin these days... It wasn’t sure all along I would or could go, but I’ve got too much to do and too little money to go (a lot of it geektechnique related btw, so that’s the upside…), anyways… I wish everybody who does go to Berlin (or is already there) a splendid time, but I’m pretty sure it will be… ;-)
