Nintendo Virtualboy

I once saw this thing in a movie… Don’t know which one though… Thought it was a fake or such… but it really exists!

I’d love to have it… but then again, I have a rather strange taste in hardware… I guess :-)

I’ve had one of these for about 7 or 8 years they’re great if not a little hard on the eyes. The concept could probably be executed much better now. The only Caveat is that games are few and hard to come by locally I can’t track any down at local game stores or swap meets.

    Cheers,

    Liam M

    Hey Mark!

Surprised you’ve not seen this before… what Liam claims is definitely true, the all red [and 3D] graphics are definitely rough on the retinas. Even so, i played the heck out of mine on a few otherwise totally boring family trips—the real appeal was going into the game completely, not having to even have any of my family in sight :P

Anyhow, I’ve still got mine, along with 6 games—email me or tell nijne if you’d like to buy it :D

Yep, also surprised that you haven’t seen this before. It was all over computer and gaming mags back when it came out. I didn’t have a chance to fiddle with this thing though :(

But oh well, I want a Pippin console anyway :P

Yeah, I had one for a while, but the limited resolution and monochrome display eventually turned my head to other solutions.

Still, nifty gadget, you can’t claim Nintendo is just a follower. I am looking forward to the Revolution controller and the inevitable oddball games and clones.

Anyhoo, if you’re looking for a virtualboy, ebay it (http://search.ebay.com/virtual-boy) and I’m sure local markets also must have one or two. 2 seconds on Marktplaats.nl and I found three.

  5. mark @ 22 December 2005, 02:47 :

Thanks, I saw the 2 on marktplaats.nl indeed and they seem to go for around 100-150 euro… Call me cheap but that’s a tad too expensive for my taste… I do have plans for putting LCD-goggles onto my workstation though… I have a pair of Asus LCD-goggles which I hooked up to an old SGI Indy, but also on marktplaats someone is selling ATI Fire GL4-cards for 29 euro, with stereo-connector and I guess I’m capable in getting those Asus-glasses on there :-)
